Many resorts include casinos as an attraction for their visitors. In some jurisdictions, casinos are required to be located in hotels and are off-limits to locals. Lotteries Lotteries are offered in almost all of the region's jurisdictions. All types of lotteries can be found, including traditional draw games, instant tickets and mobile lotteries. Race Wagering Race wagering is allowed in most of the region's jurisdictions and is well established, dating back hundreds of years in some countries. There are both horse and dog racing tracks in the Caribbean as well as offtrack betting and simulcast. There are a number of well-developed race facilities, although most of the tracks are small. Sports Betting Not every country in the Caribbean allows sports betting. Sportsbooks in some jurisdictions must be located in casinos. But in the majority of the Caribbean nations, sportsbooks are small, freestanding shops that cater to locals. Some countries require that all bets must be placed in person rather than over the phone. Online Gaming The Caribbean region is home to many online gaming operators. A number of countries have developed licensing infrastructures and many host online gaming servers and call centers. Gambling license fees and taxes form a major part of government revenue for several jurisdictions. The liberal attitude toward online gaming has caused friction between the small island nation of Antigua and Barbuda and the U.S. The former claimed the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) hurt its economy and that the U.S. unfairly interfered with commerce and petitioned the World Trade Organization, which ruled in Antigua and Barbuda’s favor. The U.S. has refused to abide by the WTO decision, and tension over internet gambling remains to this day. Commercial Bingo Bingo is permitted in most of the Caribbean countries. Anguilla Anguilla is a British overseas territory in the Caribbean and has a national lottery. No other gambling is permitted on the island. Anguilla does permit companies to offer limited forms of online trading in financial markets. Lotteries The Anguilla Caribbean Lottery is operated by the Anguilla Lottery Gaming Co, Ltd. It offers traditional lottery games and scratch tickets. Proceeds benefit the government of Anguilla. Online Gaming Anguilla does not permit online gambling.
